How many hours of continuing professional education (CPE credits) does a New Mexico psychologist need?
New Mexico psychologists and psychology associates must complete at least 40 CPE credits in each full two-year license renewal cycle. At least 15 of these hours must be from “Category I” providers, who offer approved coursework in settings where attendance is monitored. Prescribing psychologists have additional requirements.

How many hours of New Mexico psychologist CPE courses can I complete online?
Under existing rules, no more than 11 hours of the Category 1 CPE requirement for each license renewal period can be completed via home study coursework. The remaining four hours must be completed in a face-to-face setting.

In each renewal cycle, New Mexico psychologists must complete 5 hours of CPE in professional ethics and/or New Mexico State laws and regulations related to the practice of psychology; and 4 hours of CPE in cultural competency. Prescribing psychologists have additional requirements.
