Descripción del curso
Con frecuencia encontramos casos de terapeutas y consejeros interesados en prestar sus servicios profesionales a personas de origen hispano, se enfrentan con la dificultad de realizar la entrevista psicologica en español, debido a que no tienen la certeza del uso correcto de la terminología y las expresiones cotidianas o de mayor uso en dicho idioma, o no sienten la confianza suficiente para llevar a cabo una entrevista clínica por temor a comunicarse inapropiadamente.
Este curso se enfoca primordialmente en hacer cordial el uso del Español en la entrevista clínica, facilitando la ayuda que necesita este grupo de profesionales, a fin de que se sientan más comodos en el uso de la terminología, expresiones y giros del idioma con los clientes que requieren la comunicación en español. En este curso se revisará la terminología apropiada para realizar una entrevista psicológica y, al mismo tiempo, entender los conceptos básicos del la cultura Latina e Hispana. Este curso es muy ameno porque su contenido es transmitido a través del juego de roles, conversaciones y un cafecito.

Course description
Many therapists and counselors are interested in providing services in Spanish. However, they do not feel confident or proficient enough to perform a full clinical assessment for fear of not using the right terminology or not communicating appropriately. This course focuses on helping clinicians feel confident when speaking Spanish with clients. The course provides clinicians with proper terminology when performing a clinical evaluation and, most importantly, helps them understand basic concepts of Latin, and Hispanic culture. The content of this course will be delivered via role play and conversaciones.
1.5 hours CE. Recorded video format (non-interactive).
This course is delivered entirely in Spanish.
Objetivos
Al finalizer este curso, los participantes podrán:

Aplicar correctamente, al menos, siete términos clínicos en Español cotidiano, al realizar una evaluacion clínica o psicológica.

Desarrollar, al menos, tres habilidades necesarias para fomentar una fuerte relación terapéutica usando el español.

1. Reviewing and practicing Spanish concepts for Intake/Assessment purposes
2. The therapeutic alliance with Latin and Hispanic population:
a. How to listen “con respeto”
b. 7 Traditional beliefs
c. Understanding gender roles
d. Identifying family, extended families, and social networks
e. Practicing the Spanish lingo, using sayings, and “dichos”
f. Understand the role of the therapist, and the therapeutic process.

Instructor
Alejandra Trujillo, MS, LMFT, and Nadia Jones, EdD, LMFT
Alejandra Trujillo, MS is a California-licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Mexico City licensed Psychologist. She serves as Adjunct Faculty and Clinical Supervisor for California State University Northridge. Nadia Jones, EdD is a California-licensed marriage and family therapist and Associate Professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Both are bilingual clinicians with extensive experience serving Spanish-speaking clients in community-based settings.
