Course Description
This course will help you identify, conceptualize, and treat Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in LGBTQ communities. The prevalence is at least similar to, and may be higher than, what is reported among heterosexual couples. Lesbian women are twice as likely to report IPV compared to heterosexual women, and gay men report nearly identical IPV at 26-29% (CDC, 2010). This course will present APA guidelines for practice with individuals who identify as LGBTQ as a context for IPV treatment and risk reduction; theories and models of IPV treatment; a framework for considering violence risk factors; and unique aspects of IPV treatment in LGBTQ communities. Participants will learn important context about IPV in LGBTQ communities, including issues of culture, intersectionality, and trauma.
Total running time 123 minutes. 2 Hours CE. Recorded Video Format (non-interactive).
Content Advisory: To protect client confidentiality, case examples include fictionalized elements. This course includes discussion of relationship violence and other traumatic events.
