This intermediate-level workshop combines clinical research, social policy and historical frameworks to improve clinicians’ ability to effectively and competently provide mental health services to African American clients. This training helps clinicians to better understand and negotiate the complex social, economic and political dynamics that impact African Americans and their mental health needs. Participants will learn concrete tools for providing culturally responsive mental health services to African American clients.

Shawan Worsley, PhD, LMFT, LPCC

Shawan Worsley is a California-licensed marriage and family therapist and professional clinical counselor specializing in providing culturally-responsive counseling to clients with diverse identities. She earned her PhD in American Culture, specializing in 20th Century African American Literature, History, and Identity Formation. She serves as Adjunct Professor for Pacific Oaks College and as a Subject Matter Expert for the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
